If you have called on Jesus to forgive you and come into your life, you have begun an eternal relationship with the Creator! Even if you didn’t feel anything special during your prayer, God did His part. (I didn’t have any special feeling when I accepted Jesus as my Savior, but I can look back and see how God started changing my outlook right away.)
Now here are three important ways to grow in your new relationship:
- You will find that God often speaks directly to you through the Bible. How about setting some time aside each day (fifteen minutes or more) to read the Bible? A great place to begin is with one of the New Testament Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John). Then dig into the rest of the New Testament before tackling the Old Testament although the whole Bible is God’s Word and valuable for our lives. I’d be delighted if you followed this site’s Explorations of Acts.
- To grow in faith, you also need the encouragement of other Believers. You need them, and they need you. (Hebrews 10:25) When you look for this vital fellowship, check out Bible-believing churches, and ask God to lead you to the right one.
- God is your Heavenly Father. You can come boldly to Him in prayer. He wants to help you every day. Pray specifically about problems, decisions, needs, and desires. You’ll be amazed at how He answers your prayers. (John 16:24, Philippians 4:6-7, and James 1:5)
P.S. If you just called on Jesus to be your Savior and King, the angels are rejoicing (Luke 15:10). That’s because they know that you will be in heaven with God forever and ever and ever! Nothing can separate you now from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38-39).
